WOOOBA is on a mission to help the world play more sport. The grassroots sports platform connects players, as well as teams, to help them organise, challenge and log/track games, stats, practice or even just chat, together.
WOOOBA’s experienced internal tech team had already launched a minimum viable product for iOS app and web, but they needed a technical partner to increase their capacity, then refine and improve on the web front end and API, and develop the Android app.
What we did
Working closely with the WOOOBA team, Manifesto became the lead partner for delivering WOOOBA’s technical strategy, including evolving the front end of the web app, the API and the Android app.
As a sports PaaS (Platform as a Service), the first goal behind WOOOBA is to continuously remove more and more barriers to playing basketball in general, and increase participation in the UK, from the 300,000 regular monthly grassroots players, up to record breaking levels.
Barriers like finding people to play against, finding a court, keeping track of scores and statistics, while making it easier for organisers to connect and manage everyone. The API therefore needed to facilitate functions like searching for other players of a similar skill level, setting up courts, creating games and making payments.
How it went
As WOOOBA continued to grow and develop, we helped roll out additional features weekly, working with the in-house team to devise, prioritise and deliver new functionality. This included a micropayments and wallet system that allowed organisers to pay for court bookings and collect fees from players.
