In May 2025, NHS Providers unveiled its new digital platform — a modern and accessible website developed in partnership with manifesto. This milestone marks a significant step forward in improving user experience and engagement for NHS Providers’ diverse audiences.
NHS Providers is the membership organisation for NHS hospital, mental health, community and ambulance services that treat patients and service users in the English NHS. It helps these organisations to deliver high-quality, sustainable care to patients and services through collaborative efforts across the health and care system.
NHS Providers was grappling with a years old legacy website that was difficult for its users to navigate. With no substantial redevelopment since its inception and minimal governance in place, thousands of pages had been created, and it needed a comprehensive redevelopment to meet the needs of users today.
The design and build project began in April 2024, driven by NHS Providers’ ambition to create a streamlined and effective digital presence based on user evidence, not internal ideas. We collaborated closely with NHS Providers to develop clear taxonomies, reusable content modules, and a user-centred information architecture. This resulted in a simplified, modern, accessible site which met user needs identified during research..
Accessibility was at the heart of this project. Our commitment to inclusive design saw a website that achieved a 100% accessibility score at launch. This result sets a new benchmark for public service websites, demonstrating that high-quality, accessible design can be the standard, not the exception.
Built on the robust Umbraco 13 platform, the new website supports NHS Providers’ strategic goals with enhanced design and functionality. The website not only addresses NHS Providers’ immediate needs but also lays the foundation for future digital growth and innovation.
We’ll share more about the impact of this website once we start to see data on how it’s supporting NHS Providers and its users. Take a look at the website here: https://nhsproviders.org/
We really enjoyed working with manifesto on this project and would happily recommend them to others. It was a hugely complex and at times challenging redevelopment, but the team were incredibly helpful, patient and responsive throughout, making sure we felt supported the whole way from scoping to delivery.
